Appendix I: What Is the History of the High-Risk Program? Bookmark: In 1990, we began a program to report on government operations that we identified as “high risk.” Since then, generally coinciding with the start of each new Congress, we have reported on the status of progress addressing high-risk areas and have updated the High-Risk List. Currently, only half of the states in the U.S. require at least one course in either economics or personal finance for high-school graduation, according to data from the Council for Economic Education. That means millions of U.S. consumers are entering adulthood without basic life skills needed to…

‘Prove Me Wrong.’ I Think Investing in CDs Is a Better Deal Than Working With an Advisor
Ask an Advisor: ‘Prove Me Wrong.’ I Think Investing in CDs Is a Better Deal Than Working With an Advisor Why hire a financial advisor who will take around 1{9f99fe44fce1aa3c813d0a0ce4da2fbea8a5a58e9d85c4a2927dd8140cb676b5} percent of your assets per year when you can get a certificate of deposit (CD) at over 5{9f99fe44fce1aa3c813d0a0ce4da2fbea8a5a58e9d85c4a2927dd8140cb676b5} with no fee? That alone amounts to a 6{9f99fe44fce1aa3c813d0a0ce4da2fbea8a5a58e9d85c4a2927dd8140cb676b5} return on your money. One can get a brokerage CD for two years at 5.5{9f99fe44fce1aa3c813d0a0ce4da2fbea8a5a58e9d85c4a2927dd8140cb676b5}, and with no fee, the return is 6.5{9f99fe44fce1aa3c813d0a0ce4da2fbea8a5a58e9d85c4a2927dd8140cb676b5}. I will take that any day instead of worrying about what the market is doing and can sleep at night. That’s especially true as a retired person who is not…
